An Evening At The Rochester Chop House

Tonight, we marked a special occasion at the Rochester Chop House, an upscale steakhouse in downtown Rochester owned by the same group as Kruse & Muer. The atmosphere is distinctly unique, reminiscent of a classic supper club with a touch of Disney’s Hollywood Brown Derby's whimsy, complete with caricatures of famous personalities adorning the walls. While the decor is charming, the seating—which resembles oversized furniture—makes the space feel somewhat cramped. If you're prone to claustrophobia, it's something to consider!

We began with the bread service, featuring a pleasant assortment of loaves served with butter and a caprese-style salad. The bread was satisfying, though the salad wasn't quite to our taste. For our entrees, we both chose steak: Tay opted for the 22-ounce bone-in ribeye, and I selected the center-cut filet, both accompanied by mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, the steaks didn't quite meet expectations; they lacked the tenderness and flavor depth we anticipated. While we enjoyed the atmosphere and the "fine dining" vibe of the evening, the experience didn't quite justify the cost. We probably won’t return, but if you're seeking a formal, old-school setting for a night out, it's worth trying at least once.
