Hello all!
This is Grant from Coast N Tiki, sharing our experience at the Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium in New Orleans. Unlike typical aquariums, this venue includes a unique insectarium exhibit, so let's explore it together!
Situated on the Mississippi River, near the French Quarter, the aquarium is heralded as one of the most captivating attractions in New Orleans, as noted on their website at https://audubonnatureinstitute.org/aquarium. During our visit, we found it to be a rewarding experience, though it could benefit from additional content.
Within the insectarium, there are exhibits and educational materials about various insects and their ecological roles. The self-paced exhibits present information in innovative ways, incorporating games and interactive elements. Despite some open areas that could be enhanced with more displays, the environment is both tranquil and informative.
Visitors then proceed to the butterfly sanctuary, where measures are in place to protect the butterflies from external factors. This sanctuary is not only beautiful and serene but also humid, replicating a natural habitat. It highlights the significance of butterflies and offers a distinctive experience for guests, serving as a transition to the aquarium section.
The aquarium features a variety of environments and regions, from penguins to crocodiles, all cared for by a dedicated team we observed in action. Each area is uniquely lit to simulate the animals' natural habitats, with varying humidity levels enhancing the experience. The visit concludes with an exit through the gift shop.
Ticket prices begin at approximately $45 for adults and $40 for children and seniors. Overall, it is a remarkable experience, albeit somewhat brief, and we highly recommend visiting the Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium if you find yourself in New Orleans. Also, don't miss the opportunity to explore the nearby French Quarter!
