Hello all!
Today, I am attending a performance of Hamilton at the Fisher Theater. This musical, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, combines singing and rapping to depict the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Inspired by a 2004 biography, the production follows his journey from being an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean to becoming George Washington's trusted aide, the first Secretary of the Treasury, and ultimately his demise in a duel with Aaron Burr. Here are my thought of the Act's Below.
Act 1:
Alexander Hamilton endures a challenging early life, but with his intelligence and the support of his community, he departs St. Croix for New York City. As he progresses, revolutionary discussions emerge. He becomes a trusted aide to Washington during the American Revolutionary War. After the Victory at Yorktown, King George questions how the newly independent America will manage without Great Britain. George Washington becomes president, and Alexander Hamilton is appointed Secretary of the Treasury. This ultimately leads to the intermission before ACT II. Overall, the first act includes some excellent musical moments, although it can be somewhat slow and repetitive.
Act 2:
The second act explores the political atmosphere of the United States as a young nation, highlighting the rivalry involving Alexander Hamilton during its formative years. Hamilton's unexpected endorsement of his long-time political opponent, Jefferson, over Burr in the 1800 Presidential Election intensifies the tension between Hamilton and Burr. This escalation pushes Burr to his breaking point, leading him to challenge Hamilton to a duel through a series of letters. In the duel, Hamilton fires his gun into the air, signaling a ceasefire, but Burr shoots Hamilton, ultimately killing him. As a result, Burr is seen as a traitor and villain for the rest of his life. That's how they wrap it up. Overall, the second act gained momentum, but if you're not interested in history or rap, you might not enjoy this performance. I would see the performance again, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Check out a couple of photos as well as our rating of the performance below.
