An Island Adventure at Lost Island

Hey all!

Today, we're exploring Lost Island Theme Park! Fresh off our adventure at Adventureland yesterday, we decided to check out this newer park, which is less than five years old and owned by the neighboring Lost Island Waterpark. Upon arrival, you're greeted by a massive entrance plaza, with the Mura (Fire) realm to the left and Udara (Sky) to the right.

We started our day in Mura. Since Volkanu: Quest for the Golden Idol wasn't open yet, we headed straight for Fire Runner. This RMC single-rail coaster shares a similar layout to RailBlazer at California’s Great America and Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth at Fiesta Texas, but it felt noticeably more intense and delivered a superior overall ride experience. The layout is richly themed, featuring close flybys and an awesome tunnel. It’s an exceptional coaster that truly gives Lost Island a standout headliner. We will include pictures in our photo review below!

After a few laps on Fire Runner, Volkanu opened up. This interactive dark ride features a cool preshow and a seriously impressive animatronic. The physical sets and effects are remarkable. Unfortunately, my blaster gun didn’t work, which was a bit frustrating, but it’s still a genuinely fantastic dark ride.

Next, we headed to the Yuta (Earth) realm, home to Yuta Falls and the Matugani launch coaster. Relocated from Liseberg (where it operated as Kanonen), this Intamin accelerator launches you at 47 mph over a 79-foot top hat, packing in a loop, snappy transitions, and a phenomenal slow barrel roll. Despite its compact footprint, it’s incredibly punchy and ended up being my favorite ride of the day. Since the flume was closed, we moved on to explore the rest of the park.

The Awa (Water) realm serves as the main family area, featuring a Ferris wheel, pirate ship, splash battle, and their brand-new carousel. The theming here is beautifully cohesive, using vibrant shades of blue that tie everything together perfectly.

Finally, we explored the Udara (Sky) realm. While the area's theming is excellent, we were disappointed to find most of the major attractions closed, including the Skyborne drop tower and the Nopuko Air Coaster. Only the air glider ride was operating. We took a quick lap through the Tamariki kids area before hitting the front gift shop and heading out.

Overall, Lost Island Theme Park has massive potential. To really thrive, I believe they need to market it as a multi-day resort alongside the water park and prioritize keeping all the coasters operational. Adding one more major headline attraction could truly make this park stand out. Nonetheless, it’s still a beautifully themed park and absolutely worth a visit if you’re on a road trip through Iowa. Check out our photo report below!
