Hey all!
Today, we’re up in Sault Ste. Marie exploring the iconic Soo Locks! If you're heading up this way, it’s an easy, scenic 50-minute drive north after crossing the Mackinac Bridge—taking you right to the very end of I-75 at the Canadian border.
The locks are located within walking distance of downtown Sault Ste. Marie and are incredibly accessible. Just keep in mind that because it’s a secure government facility, you'll need to pass through a quick security check to enter the park.
Once inside, there’s plenty to see. You can wander through the visitor center to get a breakdown of the incredible engineering behind how the locks function, or head straight to the massive three-level viewing platform. Standing up there gives you an amazing vantage point to watch massive freighters and boats navigate the channels.
If you’re vacationing in the Upper Peninsula, the Soo Locks are a total must-visit. Plus, downtown Sault Ste. Marie has some fantastic local shopping and dining spots to check out while you're in town. Check out our photos from today's adventure below!
