Welcome to the legendary Tony Packo's! Famous for its fantastic chili dogs and Hungarian-inspired dishes, this Toledo staple gained iconic status after being immortalized on MASH* decades ago. Beyond the food, the restaurant is known for its unique tradition of having celebrities and politicians sign hot dog buns, which are then preserved and displayed throughout the dining room for everyone to see.
We ordered the Hot Dog Platter, which comes with one of their world-famous chili dogs, a cup of chili, and your choice of a side. We went with the German potato salad and the paprikas dumplings.
The Chili Dog: Pretty good, though as a Detroiter, I still lean toward National Coney Island's chili.
The Paprikas Dumplings: Excellent flavor with a nice little kick.
The Chili: A comforting and welcome addition to the platter.
The German Potato Salad: While I'm generally not a fan of German potato salad, this version is widely regarded as some of the best around.
To top it all off, we finished with the bread pudding. It had a wonderful crust and wasn't overly soggy like so many restaurant versions tend to be.
Overall, Tony Packo's offers a fun, vibrant atmosphere and makes for an awesome pit stop in Toledo if you're heading back up into Michigan.
