Weezer: The Gathering Tour At LCA!

Hey all!

Tonight, we attended Weezer: The Gathering Tour at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. While we missed the first opener, Silversun Pickups, we made it in time to catch The Shins. They put on a fantastic set—we even added a few of their tracks to our road trip playlist!

Then came the main event: Weezer. Unfortunately, the audio mix completely ruined the experience for us. Sitting in the upper bowl, the bass was so overpowering that the vocals were totally muffled. We could only tell what song was playing when the audience sang along. Talking to other fans afterward, it turns out people down in the pit had the exact same issue; the bass was just blasting over everything.

It also didn't help that the upper bowl at Little Caesars Arena is uncomfortably steep. The uneven steps had multiple people tripping, and some were leaning on the glass barrier to squeeze past each other, which felt pretty unsafe.

They played hit after hit from the Blue, Green, Pinkerton, and Gold albums, and to give credit where it’s due, the stage design was awesome—it looked just like an outdoor backyard party. I’ve seen Weezer before during the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day at Comerica Park and loved them, but tonight’s audio was so unbearable that we ended up leaving early. I’d definitely see Weezer again down the road, but I'll be passing on their indoor arena shows until the sound mixing gets sorted out.
